BASE New BASE President Christian Kühn in office

Christian Kühn took office today as the new President of the Federal Office for the Safety of Nuclear Waste Management (BASE). Kühn was welcomed by the 450 BASE employees both at the headquarters in Berlin-Charlottenburg as well as online at the Salzgitter, Cologne and Bonn sites, and gave an initial outlook on his future work.

Site selection procedure BASE President enters retirement

The President of the Federal Office for the Safety of Nuclear Waste Management (BASE), Wolfram König, will be retiring today, 31 January 2024. Wolfram König was the first President to be appointed to the Federal Office on 1 August 2016.

Research Making nuclear waste disposal safe - second BASE research symposium

Around 300 participants from 15 nations engaged in a lively international exchange on the state of nuclear waste management at the safeND research symposium. The focus was on the latest scientific work regarding the interim and final storage of radioactive waste.

Research International Symposium on Nuclear Waste Management Research

There is no final repository for high-level radioactive waste from nuclear power plants ready for operation anywhere in the world. At the same time, more and more such waste is being produced. The Federal Office for the Safety of Nuclear Waste Management (BASE) conducts research on the safe handling and storage of radioactive waste in the present and the future. To promote scientific exchange in this field, BASE will host the second international and interdisciplinary forum on the topic of safe radioactive waste disposal.
