New BASE President: Christian Kühn succeeds Wolfram König

Christian Kühn, formerly Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) will take over as head of BASE on 15 February 2024, succeeding the previous president Wolfram König, who is retiring at the end of January.

The World Nuclear Industry Status Report (WNISR) was presented in Brussels on 6 December. The analysis, prepared by an international team of experts, examines the current status of the global nuclear industry.

Research BASE to take part in IAEA mission in The Hague

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has appointed Dr Thorsten Faß from the Federal Office for the Safety of Nuclear Waste Management (BASE) to the team of experts on the Dutch ARTEMIS mission. The task of the independent commission will be to review the Netherlands' radioactive waste management programme. The mission will take place in The Hague between 19 and 28 November 2023.

Research EGU Annual Conference: BASE to head interdisciplinary session on final disposal

Europe's largest annual geoscientific conference will take place in Vienna from 14 April to 19 April 2024. Together with several research institutions, the Federal Office for the Safety of Nuclear Waste Management (BASE) will host the interdisciplinary session on final disposal projects. We encourage scientists working in the field of waste management or related topics to submit abstracts for this session. Please note that the deadline for submitting abstracts will be 10 January.

The Federal Office for the Safety of Nuclear Waste Management (BASE) has published its Status Report on the Use of Nuclear Energy in the Federal Republic of Germany 2022. The status report, which BASE produces and publishes every year, provides an overview of various aspects of the use of nuclear energy.
