6-1 Reactor Safety Commission (Reaktor-Sicherheitskommission - RSK)show / hide

The Reactor Safety Commission (RSK) advises the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (Bundesministerium für Umwelt, Naturschutz, Bau und Reaktorsicherheit - BMUB) in matters concerning nuclear safety. The RSK members are independent and develop recommendations and statements regarding the physical protection of nuclear installations. Since July 2008, the Nuclear Waste Management Commission (Entsorgungskommission - ESK) took over the field of radioactive waste mangement.

6-2 Commission on Radiological Protection (Strahlenschutzkommission - SSK) show / hide

The Commission on Radiological Protection (SSK) advises the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (Bundesministerium für Umwelt, Naturschutz, und nukleare Sicherheit - BMU) in matters concerning the protection against ionising and non-ionising radiation. The SSK members are independent and issue recommendations and statements regarding radiological protection in the fields of nuclear technology, medicine, industry, and environment.

6-3 Nuclear Waste Management Commission (Entsorgungskommission - ESK)show / hide

The Nuclear Waste Management Commission (Entsorgungskommission - ESK) was founded on 12 June 2008 and advises the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (Bundesministerium für Umwelt, Natuirschutz und nukleare Sicherheit - BMU) in matters of radiological waste disposal. This comprises the aspects of conditioning, interim storage, transport of radioactive materials and waste, decommissioning and dismantling of nuclear installations as well as disposal in deep geological formations. The ESK members are independent and develop recommendations and statements.

6-4 International Committee on Nuclear Technology (Internationale Länderkommission Kerntechnik - ILK) show / hide

The International Committee on Nuclear Technology (Internationale Länderkommission Kerntechnik - ILK) was founded in October 1999 on the basis of an Administrative Agreement between the federal states of Baden-Württemberg, Hesse, and Bavaria. The federal state of Hesse quit the Adminstrative Agreement on 31 December 2008. In October 2009 the activities of ILK finished.

The International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) is an independent non-profit organisation and issues recommendations regarding the protection from ionising radiation.

6-6 International Atomic Energy Agency - IAEAshow / hide

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is an independent intergovernmental, science and technology-based organisation in the United Nations family. The IAEA shall promote the safe, secure and peaceful use of nuclear energy and of the application of radioactive substances. In addition, the IAEA shall promote the international cooperation and verify through its supervision that States use nuclear material and facilities only for peaceful purposes.

Amongst other things, the IAEA develops nuclear safety standards and regulations for the use of nuclear technology.

6-7 International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection - ICNIRP show / hide

The International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) is a body of independent scientific experts which issues information about possible adverse effects on human health of exposure to non-ionising radiation.
